Is there any problem in taking Trazodone as a sleep aid, and Cymbalta for depression:?
I have depression and insomnia, but I was prescribed trazodone as a sleep aid, and Cymbalta for depression, is there any bad side effect taking both in the morning you cymbalta, 20 mg and trazodone at night. 50 mg. Thank you.
There is a potential for further drug-drug interaction with these two drugs. Cymbalta (duloxetine) is an antidepressant in a group of medicines called serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). The mechanism of action of antidepressants Trazodone HCl in humans is not fully understood. In animals, trazodone HCl selectively inhibits serotonin reuptake brain synaptosomes and potentiates the behavioral changes induced by the precursor of serotonin, 5-hydroxytryptophan. Concomitant use of agents with serotonergic activity such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors, the monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, receptor agonists 5-HT1, ergot alkaloids, lithium, St. John's wort, phenylpiperidine opioids, dextromethorphan, and 5-hydroxytryptophan may potentiate the risk Serotonin syndrome, a rare but serious thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A receptors. In general, the concomitant use several serotonergic agents should be avoided if possible, or not to proceed with caution the potential benefits are considered higher risk. Close monitoring is recommended for signs and symptoms of excessive serotonergic activity such as CNS irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, myoclonus, ataxia, abdominal cramping, hyperpyrexia, shivering, pupillary dilation, diaphoresis, hypertension and tachycardia. Particular caution is advised when increasing the dose of these agents also.
